Crowd Control Using iPhones

FOOTAGE of unruly spectators during the Ashes series will be beamed straight to security staff in a hi-tech assault on cricket violence.

Crowd controllers will eventually use iPhones and iPads to help identify and evict drunk, abusive or obnoxious louts under the innovative scheme.

More than $3 million will be spent over five years on internet-based CCTV at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Rowdy Aussie and English fans at this year’s Ashes series will be under the eye of razor-sharp digital technology that will enable monitoring teams to alert security staff to their exact location.

A SACA spokeswoman said there had been no decision made on using the technology during the Ashes Test at Adelaide Oval. But she did confirm that the western grandstand was on track to be completed by the Ashes.

“There is a tour match in November we are hoping to give it a run,” she said.
