Old Spice Guy In Sydney

He shot to fame as the ultimate ladies man, but at Sydney’s Bondi Beach today, Isaiah Mustafa, aka the “Old Spice guy”, was surrounded by blokes and wearing a Windows Phone 7 rash vest.

Flown here for a few days by Microsoft to promote its new mobile phone platform, Mustafa had a surfing lesson from a group of male Microsoft staffers and faced the media. But Microsoft minders forbade him from removing his rash vest, donning a towel or reciting some of his famous Old Spice lines.

“I’ll lose mine if you lose yours,” he retorted to a female reporter who asked him to take his top off for the cameras.

Mustafa, whose appearance in a series of Old Spice commercials catapulted him to worldwide fame and online stardom, stayed above waist deep during his surfing lesson and with varying success attempted to catch small waves close to the shore.

One of the only onlookers, an elderly man with his family, heckled Mustafa for not surfing further out with the other board riders. “Go out with the real men,” he shouted repeatedly.

Mustafa, a former NFL player, parlayed his success in the Old Spice commercials into a talent deal with NBC. He has a lead role in Tyler Perry’s next Madea film and will also appear next year with Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston in the film Horrible Bosses.
