A NSW government-funded iPhone app is revolutionising taxi bookings by allowing people to track booked cabs on a real-time GPS map, but the NSW Taxi Council says the unauthorised app could put passengers' safety at risk.

Submissions to Australian Communications and Media Authority's Reconnecting the Customer inquiry - published yesterday - the peak industry body, Communications Alliance, said it supported the ACMA draft report but that the industry's revised Telecommunications Consumer Protections (TCP) Code would address the major issues raised in the report.

The head of mobile infrastructure for Ericsson, Ulf Ewaldsson, says global mobile penetration will reach 100 per cent by 2016, or even a year earlier.

In May, Apple Korea was ordered by the court to pay 1 million won ($883) in compensation to Kim Hyung-suk, a lawyer, two officials at Changwon District Court said on Thursday in Korea. They declined to be identified because they are not authorised to speak to the media.
