The Nokia N9 Revealed

Finnish mobile maker Nokia has unveiled its N9 button-free smartphone, the company’s first and only bet on the Linux-based MeeGo platform.

Nokia Australia said in a statement that the phone, which has no keypad or home buttons, would be available “later this year”, with pricing still to be announced.

Apple The New Fun Police

iPhone users may be prevented from photographing or filming live concerts and sports events if a new Apple patent is anything to go by.

The company is developing software that is capable of sensing when someone is trying to record a live event and then switching off the device’s camera. It does this by triggering infrared sensors installed at venues.

Bus App Shut Down By NSW Government

Ben Hosken took 1½ days to create an application about Sydney Buses that people wanted to use. It took the government two weeks to close it down.

In February, Mr Hosken was given access to live traffic information that provided, at two-minute intervals, live updates of where State Transit buses sat on Sydney roads.

Australia Ranks No3 In Global Roaming Rort

A new OECD report released this month analysed pricing plans for 68 operators in 34 OECD countries and found Australia was the third most expensive country in the world when it comes to data roaming, with Aussie travellers paying an average of just under $US12 per MB.
